After the Interview
What’s Next?
You've done it! You've interviewed for a few companies and are waiting to hear back to see where you're going to start your career as a BCBA.
Be Patient
It's important to keep in mind that it may take time before you hear back from the companies on your interview list. Some companies will give you an offer by the end of the interview, whereas other companies will take two to four weeks before they give you a response.
The most important thing to remember after the interview process is to not jump and accept the very first offer you receive. Like we've discussed before, it is important to keep all your options on the table and really consider the pros and cons of working for each company that has extended you an offer.
Consider the Offer
Another reason why you may want to hold off on accepting that very first offer is you never know why they're making you an offer so quickly. Many companies will make same day offers because they're absolutely thrilled with you and are incredibly impressed with what you bring to the table. So it's not necessarily a bad thing for a company to extend an immediate offer!
However, some companies are experiencing significant turnover within their company, and they may be looking for just about anyone to take the place of their current BCBA who is already out the door.
This is sometimes how brand new BCBAs are promoted immediately to a clinical director position. And even though the pay and benefits of such a position look absolutely stunning, if you have zero experience working in the field you will experience a significant amount of burnout within your first year.
Look for Mentorship
As a new BCBA, you want to accept a position where you know you're going to be coached and invested in by other experienced BCBAs. Because of this, you want to look for a company or organization with a very low turnover rate amongst their BCBAs. If a company is quick to hire, that's a potential indicator that their turnover rate is quite high.
If a company takes their time to reach out to you, it means that they are probably not stressed to find replacement BCBAs and can afford to take their time and hiring a new one.
